Funeral Expenses
Our funeral account is made up of four components:
I. Charters Towers Funerals Professional Service Fee
Charters Towers Funerals Professional Service Fee incorporates the various tasks and services typically involved in arranging, planning and conducting a funeral.
Professional Funeral and Mortuary services may include:
- Guidance, care and attention from our professionally trained and accredited staff (available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year).
- Transfer of the deceased from the place of death into our care.
- Provision of mortuary care by experienced and qualified staff at our accredited mortuary facility.
- Availability of our Funeral Home for the initial arrangement meeting, the viewing and/or any private family time.
- Placement of death and funeral notices in the newspapers.
- Registration of death with the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
- Making arrangements with the Cemetery/Crematorium.
- Liaising with the Celebrant/Clergy.
- Liaising with the florist, caterer, musician and other service providers.
- Provision of all necessary staff, hearse and where required 6 seat mourning coach on the day of the funeral.
- Provision of advice and support following the funeral.
2. Coffin or Casket
The cost of the coffin or casket is separate and will depend on your selection.
3. Disbursements
These consist of the monies paid out by Charters Towers Funerals on your behalf to other parties in order to carry out the funeral in accordance with your instructions. These include:
- Cemetery or Crematorium fees.
- Clergy or Celebrant fees.
- Musician fees.
- Venue hire fees.
- Floral tributes.
- Death and Funeral Notices.
- Catering.
- Registered Death Certificate.
- Medical Certificate required for Crematorium.
4. Goods and Services Tax
GST is payable on Charters Towers Funeral fees and the supply of all related products and services. This adds 10% to the total cost of the funeral. The exact amount of GST is calculated when all costs associated with the funeral are finalised and will be reflected in the final account.
Our Professional Service Fee excludes:
- "After hours" rosary or vigil prayers or viewing at an external venue.
- Full embalming (required for overseas repatriation and other situations).
- Weekend or Public Holiday fees.
- Travel outside our usual operating area 150 km radius from Charters Towers.
- Additional vehicles (Hearse and one 6 seat mourning coach included).
- Payment to third parties, which are called disbursements (as above).
Prescribed Funeral Goods & Services
Transfer Fee ~ $ 212
Transport of the deceased prior to burial or cremation*
*The above fee:
- Includes transport of the deceased from place of death to our funeral home mortuary.
- Transfer is made during normal business hours (Monday – Friday between 8.30am – 4.30pm) and within 50 km of our mortuary.
- Additional charges may apply for transfers outside normal business hours and/or outside the 50km radius of our mortuary.
Mortuary Fee ~ $95 - $4683
Storage of the deceased in our mortuary – daily fee
Care and preparation of the deceased prior to burial or cremation*
*Non-standard preparation will be charged as a disbursement.
Professional Service Fee ~ $3748 - $4683
Arrangement and conduct of a funeral service including the hire of a venue*
*Single location service only. Additional fees will apply to multiple location services.
*Weekend and public holiday funeral service fees will apply (if applicable).
*Any applicable third-party venue hire fees are itemised on the Funeral Service Agreement and will be charged as a disbursement.
Hire of Refrigeration Plate ~ Not Applicable
Coffins and Caskets ~ $1150 - $12,580
*Adult size coffin only:
- Please enquire for children’s coffins
- Coffins are standard size, additional cost for oversize coffin
Viewing Fee ~ $190
Viewing of the deceased prior to burial or cremation
Disbursements
*These are third party charges. Below are our reasonable estimates, which are subject to change.
- There also may be additional disbursements that are not mentioned below.
Cremation Fee ~ $1275
*Applicable only to Woongarra Crematorium & Memorial Gardens Townsville.
- A fee of $145 (including GST) applies for the use of the Woongarra Crematorium Chapel
Burial Plot Fees
*Cemetery plots only within the Charters Towers Regional Council area
Cremation Certificates ~ $150
Death Certificate ~ $70
*Obtained from the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
Disclosures
- Price of the least expensive package is $3900 (No service, no attendance Cremation)
- Our company’s mortuary is located at 36 Hodgkinson St, Charters Towers, Qld, 4820.
- The crematorium utilised by Charters Towers Funerals is Woongarra Crematorium & Memorial Gardens Townsville, 37309 Bruce Highway, Julago, Townsville, Qld, 4816
- Transportation of the deceased to the burial or cremation will be in a suitable vehicle owned by Charters Towers Funerals.
